Here we have a very unusual electric 5-string upright bass. This was made by a Dutch luthier named Henk Van Zalinge in the late 1970’s. It features an aluminum body with a wood neck and and a very thick ebony fretboard. This one has a vintage Polytone pickup in it. This is a very early 5-string upright, (maybe a prototype?) The neck is very straight and the action is set very low for an upright. It plays great. These were popular back in the day. I believe Sting owns a couple and used one on Synchronicity.
