BAND INSTRUMENTS WE RENT
soprano (bb)
The soprano Bb clarinet is a woodwind instrument that uses a reed to produce sound. Most students will start on a Bb clarinet, but other varieties also exist.

bass
The bass clarinet is a woodwind instrument that is much larger than the more common soprano Bb clarinet. Like the soprano Bb clarinet, is is also in the key of Bb, but it plays an octave lower than its soprano counterpart. Due to its larger size, it can either be supported while being played using a neck strap or resting on a floor peg that protrudes from the bottom of the instrument. Like other clarinets, it uses a reed to produce sound. Most students will start on a soprano Bb clarinet, but other varieties also exist.

The flute is a woodwind instrument where the sound is produced by blowing across the hole on the head joint, similar to making a sound by blowing over the top of the bottle. Most students will start with a closed hole flute, then advance to an open hole flute as they get used to the instrument.

The piccolo is a woodwind instrument where the sound is produced by blowing across the hole on the head joint, similar to making a sound by blowing over the top of the bottle. The piccolo is about half the size of a standard flute, and plays an octave higher. The piccolo uses many of the same fingerings as a flute. Piccolos are often used in marching bands, as they are louder and easier to hear in an outdoor setting than a flute.

SINGLE
The french horn is a brass instrument that produces sound by buzzing your lips in a cupped mouthpiece. Different notes are produced by pressing keys that move rotary valves or by adjusting the buzzing of your lips. Most students start on a single french horn, then advance to a double french horn that adds a fourth valve that extends the range of the instrument.

DOUBLE
The double french horn is like the single horn in size, but has the addition of a 4th valve that routes the air to one set of tubing in F, or the other set of tubing that is in Bb. The additional tubing extends the playing range of the instrument, and makes it much easier to play in the higher range. Most students start on a single french horn, then advance to a double french horn.

alto
The alto saxophone is a woodwind instrument that uses reed to produce sound. The most common saxophone to rent is the alto saxophone, but we also rent tenor saxophones, baritone saxophones, and soprano saxophones.

tenor
The tenor saxophone is a woodwind instrument that uses reed to produce sound. We also rent alto saxophones, baritone saxophones, and soprano saxophones.

baritone
The baritone saxophone is a woodwind instrument that uses reed to produce sound. The baritone saxophone is largest of the common saxophones. It is an Eb instrument that plays an octave below the alto saxophone.

The trombone is a brass instrument that uses a slide to change notes. Like the trumpet, sound is produced by buzzing your lips in a cupped mouthpiece.

These instruments are very similar and play the same music. A Euphonium has a larger bore size than a baritone horn. Some baritone horns can be smaller in size, and therefore easier to carry and play for smaller students.

The oboe is a double reed instrument. Most students will start with a basic key system, then work their way up to a full conservatory oboe that has more keys for advanced fingerings.

kit w/ practice pad
Most music programs start percussionists on a percussion kit. It has a small xylophone in addition to a practice pad or snare drum to allow the student to learn how to read music in addition to learning rhythms. The percussion kit with the practice pad is cheaper to rent and easier and lighter to transport since it does not have a snare drum.

kit w/ snare drum
Most music programs start percussionists on a percussion kit. A percussion kit has a small xylophone in addition to a practice pad or snare drum to allow the student to learn how to read music in addition to learning rhythms. The percussion combo kit comes with both a practice pad and a snare drum in addition to the xylophone.
